Coffee for Your Soul by Mike Sturgeon

1 Peter 5:8 Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [ in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. AMP

Fasting sobers you up like a cup of Hot coffee sobers up a drunk. You may not be physically drunk on alcohol but you could be drunk on your  circumstances.  Lately Tamara and I had become mentally drunk over a circumstance to a point that it was all we talked about.  The problem had become the topic in every conversation. On and on we went until we heard God’s sobering words during a time of prayer. God spoke to our hearts that we had become drunk on the problem and we needed to sober up.

The Lord showed us how to determine if you are drunk on your circumstances. Start by listening to what is coming  out of your mouth. If you can talk for hours about your problem but don’t know of one scripture that speaks to your problem.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 15:18 that the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you.

As you fast and pray ask God to show you the areas that you have become drunk on. Ask Him to reveal the places you are out of balance. Ask Him to expose the doors you have left open and allowed the enemy to devour you. Begin to ask Him to give you a sober, well balanced mind. Tell yourself I will not drunk on my circumstances but vigilant and cautious at all times.

Lord may your words in my heart be sober me up like hot coffee in Jesus name! Amen

The Making of a Champion by Chuck Sturgeon

Awoke this morning with Daddy on my mind; Budd Sturgeon he was named by Charles & Eva Sturgeon. All the way through Ames Public School with one year in South Texas school Daddy was Budd. After realizing others had a middle name he started signing everything Bud Leo Sturgeon. He dropped the 2nd d in Budd and added Leo who was a long time friend he had.

After marriage and 3 children “on the ground” he started using his best skill in ranching; roping. Soon after several of his friends & he started the Ames Saddle Club at Ames Oklahoma. (I have his parade shirt still; hanging in our home with Ames Saddle Club uniquely lettered.)

The Ames Saddle club built an Arena on the “Yeoman Ranch” owned by his youngest Sister Lucy and her husband Kenneth. My Sisters and I grew up watching Daddy calf rope in Rodeos there and other towns in Northwest Oklahoma. Blackjack Fletcher was the Rodeo Clown and his donkey drew a lot of my attention in-between events. Getting to ride Blackjack’s Donkey was a treat but riding Daddy’s America Quarter Horse named Tar was way beyond the Donkey. Tar; Daddy used in roping but he loaned him to his good friend for hazing then called “bulldogging”. We kids could ride Tar and he was so gentle but back him up in the chute with a barrier stretched across, then the calf released, barrier released, and like lightning Tar positioned himself just where he was needed for Daddy’s well placed loop. Then down the left side in those days Daddy dismounted, crossed over and under the rope, flanked the calf, & tied him secure with his pegging string; TIME WAS THEN CALLED. Daddy didn’t win all the time but his love and joyful deep laughter following each successful rope time proved to me the “Making of a Champion – Bud & Tar” was a real thing.

I could write for Days what a Champion Daddy was and still is in Heaven. “Ole Tar” lived and died here on the Ranch; that was a sad day to remember.

Would be to God that every son could reverence their Daddy as I did. His passing from this earth I watched physically. I wasn’t a Christian at the time but four years later I gave my heart to Jesus Christ.

The Special horses here on the Ranch started with “Ole Tony”, then Tar, Cin, & Tal Ler. There were many others but these were special.

Today as Dea & I live on the Ranch; many things I see daily remind me of days gone by. I can truly say I have no regrets. Jesus has taken any that I did have and God put them in a Sea of Forgetfulness. That’s something to shout about! Thank You Jesus!!

John 16:7 (KJV) 7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

JUDGMENT

John 16:11 (KJV) 11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

John 16:13 (KJV) 13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. (not speak His own message)

Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) 30And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Acts 8:16 (KJV) 16(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Acts 8:17 (KJV) 17Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:18 (KJV) 18And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,
Acts 8:19 (KJV) 19Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:20 (KJV) 20But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Acts 8:21 (KJV) 21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
Acts 8:22 (KJV) 22Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
Acts 8:23 (KJV) 23For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

Spirit of Truth, helper, guide, show things to come (He’s been there), He wants a relationship with you. You can’t have relationship with things (chair, tree, etc.)

Acts 1:4 (KJV) 4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

The Holy Spirit promised, power to be a witness, ability, might

The gift of the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit.

Receiving Him is to your advantage.

The Holy Spirit is God.

Luke 3:21 (KJV) 21Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
Luke 3:22 (KJV) 22And the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

Matthew 28:19 (KJV) 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

The Personality of the Holy Spirit
The Trinity
God the Father, God the Son, & God the Holy Spirit He Himself

The membership of the Holy Spirit in the Holy Trinity is itself proof of the personality of the Holy Spirit. Additional proof of His personality is found in the fact that the attributes of His personality are manifested by Him, in others.

No one can be a consistent believer of the Bible without hold the doctrine of the tri-unity of the Godhead.

Matthew 3:16 (KJV) 16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Matthew 3:17 (KJV) 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

All Three of the Godhead are represented here. All members of the Godhead are seen or heard at the same time and yet they have distinct existence and operation.

John 14:16 (KJV) 16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

All three are mentioned here; thus all three different persons.

Matthew 28:19 (KJV) 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:

We are to baptize in the name of all Three.

2 Corinthians 13:14 (KJV) 14The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen.

Here Paul describes all three in his prayer

Acts 2:32 (KJV) 32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Acts 2:33 (KJV) 33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Here Peter is preaching of all three.

Acts 10:38 (KJV) 38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Here is witness of all three.

Additional proof of the existence of three persons in the Godhead is found in the fact that God is so complete, contains in His Character such a wide range and broad compass of all virtues, and is a perfect example in every respect, that it is necessary that there be a plurality of persons in the Godhead in order to contain and express it all.

If God were the only sovereign Ruler, He could not have vacated His Throne to become a helpless baby and to demonstrate the perfect humility which is inherent in His Nature in which He manifested when He girded Himself and washed the disciple’s feet. If there were no God-the son then God the Father would have had no opportunity to have loved from the foundation of this World. God the Father could not have been the God of Love that we know Him today without an expression of Love……..Jesus. How could God-the son, Jesus, have went to the cross without God the Father to trust in to raise Him from the dead?

These considerations are proofs of the fact that there are distinct persons in the great infinite Godhead. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit He Himself.

The Mind of the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:27 (KJV) 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

The Will of the Holy Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:11 (KJV) 11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

The emotions of the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) 30And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed to the day of redemption.
Thus we see the Holy Spirit has a mind, will, and emotions.

The Personal activities of the Holy Spirit
Genesis 6:3 (KJV) 3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
(strives/dwell with)

John 14:25 (KJV) 25These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
John 14:26 (KJV) 26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Holy Spirit sent, helper sent in My Name, teacher, The Word of God comes alive, He teaches & brings to your memory what has been taught.

John 15:26 (KJV) 26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
He Himself testifies of Jesus, teacher, proceeds from the Father He testifies of Christ and is the Spirit of Truth.

John 16:8 (KJV) 8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

He reproves of or convinces of sin, righteousness, and of judgement.

John 16:13 (KJV) 13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

He guides into all truth, not error…..Never speaks of Himself and only speaks what He hears……Then shows you things to come.

Romans 8:14 (KJV) 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Romans 8:16 (KJV) 16The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:17 (KJV) 17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

His guidance or leading causes our Sonship to be complete & with His leading brings a fullness to each situation.

Acts 9:31 (KJV) 31Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit were multiplied.

He comforts.

Romans 8:26 (KJV) 26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:27 (KJV) 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

He helps our infirmities, intercedes through us for the saints.

1 Corinthians 2:10 (KJV) 10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

He searches the Deep things of God. (bottomless, unlimited, never ending)

Romans 15:16 (KJV) 16That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

He consecrates and makes Holy. (sanctify, set apart, makes holy, sacred)

Romans 8:16 (KJV) 16The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

He witnesses or testifies who we are. (observers, gives evidence)

Acts 16:6 (KJV) 6Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia,
Acts 16:7 (KJV) 7After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
He commands and forbids some things. (orders, tips) (bands, outlaws, prevents)

Acts 5:3 (KJV) 3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the
Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

He is susceptible to personal treatment and can be lied to. (Lie – telling of untruths)

Attempt to deceive.

Acts 7:51 (KJV) 51Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye.

He can be resisted. (oppose, refuse to accept or go along with, defy)

Matthew 12:31 (KJV) 31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men.
Matthew 12:32 (KJV) 32And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

He can be blasphemed. (speaking curses, oaths against the Holy One)

Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) 30And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

He can be grieved. Do not offend Him, (feel sad, unhappy)

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV) 19Quench not the Spirit.

He can be quenched. (like putting out a fire) do not suppress – hold back

There are those who have difficulty in distinguishing between personality (being a person) and corporeity (having a body). They cannot understand or believe that anything which is invisible and intangible, and does not have a body can be a person. Jesus said, “A spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have.” Luke 24:39, He also said, “God is a Spirit.” John 4:24.

God exists as an invisible Spirit without flesh and bones. But the Creator of a Universe of persons must himself be a person. The Holy Spirit is a Spirit like God the Father, and so the Holy Spirit is a person also. His omnipresence is an impossible conception if we confine Him to a body.

A Fathers Love by Chuck Sturgeon

"Daddy always made a place for me"

I learned about my Heavenly Father’s Love for me as I grew up experiencing my Daddy’s Love. For instance, I will never forget the time we bought our very first new tractor. That new tractor had an electric starter on it. That was a very big deal. We didn’t have to hand crank our old tractor anymore.

I was just a little boy, and I remember being so proud as I rode in my Dad’s old “bobtail” truck with my Uncle, watching my Daddy drive a brand new Case Tractor away from that farm implement dealership. We followed Daddy the entire twenty-eight miles to the homeplace, and every time a car drove by, I wanted to roll the window down and holler, “That’s My Daddy! That’s our Brand new tractor!”

Daddy parked the new tractor inside the garage where the bobtail truck generally sat. Then he and my uncle walked around the tractor, kicking the tires and looking at the nice paint job and electric starter.

After a while, Mama hollered to them, “The coffee’s ready!” Well, I was just a little boy; I didn’t drink coffee, so I decided to stay and look at the new tractor.

As my uncle walked out of the garage, he said to my Daddy, “Bud better not leave Chuck out here alone, He’ll start that tractor.”

“Oh, he can’t start it,” Daddy said.

When I heard that, I thought, Well I’ll show Daddy I can!” I thought my Daddy would be pleased to find out I was smart enough to start the tractor all by myself.

I had watched how my Daddy and uncle pulled both the spark and the throttle back just so far, and I knew where the little starter button was that had to be pushed.

So I started up that tractor, and I tell you what – my Daddy stopped drinking his coffee real fast! He ran out to the garage, and he did not look very pleased.

Daddy explained to me the seriousness of my offense. “What if you had put the tractor in gear and run it through the garage door?” he asked. Then he spanked me because I had done something I wasn’t supposed to do.

After supper, Daddy went back out to the garage, and I didn’t see him again before I went to bed. To this day I can remember how terrible I felt as I lay in bed, thinking about what I had done with the tractor.

It always bothered me if I felt a strain between me and my Daddy. But this time I felt even worse because all the excitement of the day had left, and I had been disciplined for something I thought my Daddy would be proud of me for doing. I hadn’t recognized the danger involved.

The next morning I woke up thinking, Daddy is going to hook up that new tractor to the mower and start mowing our alfalfa, and now I won’t get to go. I had always gone with my Daddy before. He had fixed up a little seat on the fender of the old tractor, and I always sat there so I could be with him.

But after breakfast, Daddy said to me, “Come on, let’s go mow hay.” Unknown to me, my Daddy had stayed up almost all night, taking that little seat from the old tractor, and fastening it to the new tractor. He wasn’t about to take that tractor out and mow hay without his son! That’s what I mean when I say my Daddy always made a place for me.

Daddy and I did everything together, so the first day I started first grade was a terrible day for me (there wasn’t any kindergarten back then). I knew my Daddy was going to a livestock auction that day, and I couldn’t be there. I never enjoyed grade school, even though I made satisfactory grades, and the main reason I didn’t was that it separated me from my father.

But despite having to go to school I found out Daddy and I could still be close and enjoy doing things together. He always made sure he spent a lot of time with me.

Today I can walk for hours on the ranch where I grew up and recall one memory after another of good times spent with my earthly father. And while I’m out on our land, I like to spend time with my Heavenly Father as well. I like to climb one of the nearby hills where I can see for miles. I sit there for great lengths praying in tongues and worshiping God.

DAD’S BE AWESOME

I have compassion for those who don’t have my kind of testimony about their earthly fathers. But once a person is washed by the Blood of Jesus and learns to go before the throne of God to receive help, then Father God will heal every hurt from his past. God wants to be “Abba Father” -Papa God- to every one of His children.

Our Father God always makes a place for you. He will make your Christian Home a place of safety, comfort, peace and refuge. He will make your family strong. He promises to perfect that which concerns you (Psm 138:8). Whatever is on your heart concerning your home and family, Papa God will take care of it.

So earthly father, spend time before your Heavenly Father, Hear from Him regarding the direction your family should be going and the needs of each family member. Learn how to know the needs of our wife and our children before they ever talk to you about them.

BECOME THE SPIRITUAL LEADER GOD ALWAYS INTENDED FOR YOU TO BE IN THE DIVINE PORTRAIT HE IS PAINTING OF YOUR HOME!
