Get Our Hands Dirty

Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty; but much increase comes by the strength of an ox. Proverbs 14:4

The wisdom of Proverbs 14:4 serves as a powerful reminder: true productivity demands our active engagement, which is often messy and challenging. This verse teaches us the value of 'getting our hands dirty.' Just as a clean manger signifies inactivity and lack of productivity, our lives, devoid of effort and active engagement, reflect spiritual complacency.

The strength of an ox symbolizes productivity; it embodies diligence and hard work. Similarly, in our spiritual walk and service to God, we are called not to shy away from challenges or uncertainties. Avoiding effort leads to stagnation, but embracing it with the strength God provides leads to fruitful outcomes. Let us not be deterred by the messiness, and choose to prioritize deep relationships with God and be fervent in serving His kingdom. God empowers and strengthens us to overcome and achieve fruitful outcomes."

Reflection:

What holds you back from engaging in your spiritual growth and service to God? Are there areas in your life where you might be avoiding effort because it feels too challenging or messy?

Prayer and Reflection

Abba Father, we come before You repenting of our tendencies towards sloth, inactivity, and apathy. Forgive us for the times we have chosen ease and comfort over doing Your will. Lord, grant us the strength of an ox that we may embrace the hard work and messiness involved in serving You and growing in our faith. Let us not be deterred by the challenges but be empowered by the fruitful outcomes promised in Your Word. Empower us, God, to serve You with fervency and productivity, just as You encourage us not to grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
