Heavenly records

And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. Revelation 20:12

Blockchain technology is a digital ledger that records data across many computers so that data cannot be altered. It is known for its immutability and transparency. Is our individual "book of life" like a heavenly blockchain, an unchangeable record written by God?

Before the Lord, our lives are transparent. God knows everything we do, both good and bad. “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Hebrew 4:13, also in Ecclesiastes 12:14, "For God will bring every work into judgment”, the Bible says that we are accountable for everything we say and do. As a just and perfect God, He has our records, so humans cannot get away or make excuses. On that Day, justice will be served and the faithful will be rewarded and recognised.

Mercy triumphs judgment. As opposed to blockchain on earth, our sins can be erased not by our efforts, but by the merciful and sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ. God said, "Our sins and lawless deeds, He will remember no more.” Hebrew 8:12.  It is only through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross that forgiveness is possible, and we need to repent, God says, “I will blot out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25).

In the book of life, believers are assured that their names are engraved, which is the most important ledger entry. Having our names written in the book of life ensures our citizenship in heaven when we put our faith in Christ. The book also records our words and deeds associated with judgment and eternal destiny.

It is the solemn truth of the "book of life" that compels us to live with reverence and awe before God. The purpose of it is not to create fear in us, but to motivate us to live a sober life that honors God, aligns our lives with God's values, and inspires us to live a life driven by eternity.

Blessing prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice so that our names are written in your book. Let us live each day with reverence and obedience, honoring you in everything we say and do. In Jesus’ name, Amen
