God’s got your back
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:8
A rearguard is a military term meaning to watch the back in case of a surprise attack from the rear. The word "rear guard" comes from the Hebrew word awsaf, which means to gather and collect or destroy.
The tribe of Dan served as the rearguard for all the tribes when they marched forward, not only to protect the camp from the enemy who pursued them backward, but also to care for the feeble people, such as children, the elderly, so they could advance to the promised land together.
In the journey ahead, God promises that He will go before us and that He will have our backs as well. Often, God will ask us to move forward, but in the back of our minds we worry about not being protected and fear of unexpected terror, so something pulls us back.
God has our backs, and all He asks from us is to tap in His glory. God’s glory provides a hedge of protection against attacks from behind, and His glory destroys the enemy and gathers his plunder!
The glory of God dwells within us because we are His temple. When we walk in His glory, nothing can hold us back from accomplishing God's will.
Blessing prayer: Thank you Jesus your glory is like a shield around us. Your light breaks forth like the dawn, and your righteousness will go before us and the glory of the Lord is our rear guard. We are unstoppable and press towards your goal. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
