Little and much
He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. Luke 16:10
The Greek word for faithful is “pistos”, which means trustworthy and dependable. Because we know God is faithful, we can entrust our lives to Him, but could He entrust His work to us?
By being faithful in the little things, we will receive blessings from God, as “a faithful man shall abound in blessings.” Proverbs 28:20, and in Matthew 25 the parable of the talents, the servants who are faithful over a few things will be in charge of with many things. Would we like to have much more? Then we must be faithful in the little things.
It's the little things that matter such as being punctual, paying our bills on time or keeping our word. Or simply, can people rely on us? Being faithful in small things develops our character as the fruit of faithfulness cultivated over time.
There are some people who look down on the small tasks and responsibilities they are assigned, and may think that it is not worth their attention. It is incorrect to think this way, since God uses the small things to test our character, and small things often reveal a person's true character. Often we want to skip the process to get a big promotion, but God wants us to grow in faithfulness during the process, and He will increment step by step, eventually entrusting us with bigger tasks. Hence, there’s the principle of little and much.
The principle applies not just to this life, but also to our eternal lives, so if we are faithful in the little things in this life, we will be entrusted with greater things later. As we pass the test and become refined in the process, God will reward us and say “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Blessing prayer: Your kingdom is not about achievement, but about entrustment. Help us to be faithful in the small things and have a cheerful attitude to complete every task you assign us, no matter how big or small it may be. In Jesus Name, Amen
