The fulfilment of Love - Action (Part 3)
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:18
One of the essences of love is action, even if it has commitment and decision. Without action, we just talk the talk but don't walk the talk. "Love in action" is best demonstrated by Jesus, who literally gave everything to us and endured a gruesome death on a cross. Neither men nor other Gods could do what Jesus did in dying for us and saving humanity. The ultimate act of love was Jesus' sacrifice.
Throughout His three year ministry on earth, Jesus walked in love and showed "love in action. He traveled long distances preaching the gospel, healing the sick, and casting out demons. In particular, he enjoys spending time with many people at the dining table.
I am thrilled to find out that Jesus enjoys eating with us, and he even prepares meals for His loved ones! In fact, God invites us to eat at His table and instructs us to join other believers in "table fellowship." (Act 2:42)
The first table fellowship I had was with my spiritual mentor Copy when I was around 16 years old. I wasn't even practicing the Christian faith at that time, but she chose to spend one-on-one time with me to witness faith and build a mentorship relationship with me. As a student, I was touched that she took me to nice restaurants and spent time with me. What really touched me was her invitation to her home and heart to cook. She was the first person to cook for me deliberately, aside from my mom.
I still remember that meal even though it was a long time ago, and I talked to myself deep inside, wanting to be like her and show hospitality to others. After some years, I invited her to my place and cooked for her. I wish we could have had more table fellowship, but the Lord took her home shortly afterwards.
This article is a tribute to Copy, a wonderful example of a Godly woman who taught me how to share love in action and cultivate my hospitality gift. As a result, cooking and hosting meals has become an integral part of my life and my primary love language.
People's hearts will open up when they sit down to share a meal together. There are many profound and intimate moments over the table, which to me is a beautiful example of “love in action.”
Blessing prayer: Jesus, thank you for modeling love as an action word so that we can learn from you and continually demonstrate “love in action ”. In Jesus’ name, Amen
