Destroy the Chariots
In Joshua 11:9, we see a powerful act of obedience and renunciation. Joshua, following God's command, hamstrings the horses and burns the chariots of his enemies. This act is not just military strategy; it symbolizes the rejection of human strength and reliance on divine power. In ancient warfare, horses and chariots represented military technology and power. By disabling and destroying these military assets, Joshua was proclaiming that Israel's trust was not in military might but in the Lord's guidance and provision.
For us today, this verse invites reflection on what 'horses and chariots' we are depending upon. These might be our skills, resources, or connections—elements we mistakenly believe are the source of our security and success. Joshua's obedience reminds us to commit every aspect of our lives to the Lord, trusting in His power rather than our own.
Reflection:
What are the 'horses and chariots' in your life that you need to surrender to God to demonstrate your complete trust in His provision?
Prayer and Declaration:
Abba Father, we learn from the obedience of Joshua who, under Your command, hamstrung the horses and burned the chariots. Lord, we recognize how often we place our trust in our own 'horses and chariots'—the strengths and strategies of the world and the desires of men's hearts.
We declare, as in Psalm 20:7, 'Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.' Lord, dismantle our reliance on earthly power. Send confusion into the enemy's camp and render the strategies that oppose Your will for our lives powerless.
We commit to relying solely on Your strength and wisdom. Help us to identify and forsake any false securities that we have allowed to dominate our thoughts and actions. We proclaim our trust in You alone, knowing that You are the source of our victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
