Inconvenient Faith (Part 3)

"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2

One thing about being on crutches is that rainy days are so inconvenient. The raincoat doesn’t work for me—it’s stuffy, and the ground is still slippery. If the rain gets heavy, I’d rather wait it out. But sometimes, I just let the raindrops fall on me, and in extreme cases, I’ve been fully soaked and stopped caring.

But in those inconvenient moments, God has taught me something important. When I’m caught in the rain, my friends or strangers often come to help, offering to share their umbrellas. Every time this happens, I feel a sense of warmth in my heart. Sharing an umbrella feels like sharing someone's intimate space, where someone covers you and walks with you, and it reminds me that being able to receive help creates a special bond.

My upbringing, like much of the world, emphasized self-sufficiency and the idea that we shouldn’t be a burden to others. But those are lies. Faith doesn’t promote independence; it calls us to rely on Christ’s sufficiency and to be open to help.

Even on inconvenient rainy days, I’ve seen God’s kindness. Sometimes the rain stops just when I need to go outside, and sometimes strangers become His provision for me. What I’ve learned is that inconvenience can be a blessing, a chance to experience God’s love and the kindness of others.

Reflection Question:
How can you allow God's kindness to reach you through others?

Prayer:
Abba Father, You are present even in inconvenient moments. Help me to see Your hand in the kindness of others and to let go of the need to do everything on my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
