Money is Spiritual: Part 10 – Sharp Diligence
"Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth." — Proverbs 10:4
In the Bible, a "diligent hand" means more than just working hard. The Hebrew word for diligence, "ḥārûṣ" (חָרוּץ), conveys sharpness, focus, and determination. It also signifies gold and treasure, reminding us that diligence is so valuable.
Biblical diligence encompasses more than effort—it includes sharp focus, avoiding distractions and trivial matters; determination, pressing forward with consistency even when challenges arise; and excellence, doing work with quality, wisdom, and purpose. The diligent person works smartly, with the acumen to recognize opportunities that others might miss. They cut through distractions and focus on what truly matters, improving their skills and abilities over time.
As Proverbs 22:29 says, "Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings." This aligns with the principle of being "so good they can’t ignore you." Diligent hands refine their craft and rise to greater heights.
On the contrary, "lazy hands" symbolize neglect and passivity. The Hebrew word for laziness suggests letting things drop, becoming weak, or failing to act. This leads to procrastination, excuses, and missed opportunities. Ultimately, laziness results in unfulfilled potential and poverty—not just materially, but spiritually and emotionally as well.

Stay Focused: Avoid distractions and prioritize what matters most. Set clear goals and pursue them with purpose.
Be Consistent: Work steadily, even when it’s difficult. Small, consistent steps lead to big rewards.
