Delight in me

AI, Christian devotional

You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; For the Lord delights in you, And your land shall be married. Isaiah 62:4

“Hephzibah” is a Hebrew name that means The Lord delights in you. What does the word "delight" mean? As explained in verse 5, as the “bridegroom rejoices over the brides, so shall your God rejoice over you.”

It means that a young man is thrilled and ecstatic about marrying the love of his life; he is filled with excitement and joy. Therefore, the Lord is delighted with us in the same way that a bridegroom rejoices over his bride. When God delights in us, it is associated with marriage, as marriage signifies the covenant relationship between two people.

I believe the "relationship goal" and key to a successful marriage is "delighting in each other". When we delight in each other, it means we are greatly pleased with our spouse, we are thrilled for each other, and ultimately that gives us joy so we can rejoice over them. Couples who feel trapped in marriage may have difficulty delighting each other.

God designed marriage to teach us to take pleasure in one another and experience joy as a couple. So moments such as divorce or breaking up with someone would make us not delighted, so in the key verse we feel "forsaken" and "desolate," a sense of being unwanted and abandoned.

We often heard this advice for those recovering from a break-up, “it is time to fall in love with God ” Many people will ask “how?" Whether we are single or married, every believer needs to work on the most significant "marriage", which is being married to the Lord. We are His bride. The truth is, there is no doubt that our Lord delights in us, and He is thrilled over us to the point that just a glance from us can ravish His heart. Clearly, God loves us so madly and He expresses that in our Bible, which is a love letter containing our love story.

A marriage is a two-way street, our feelings must be mutual. God also wants us to “Delight yourself in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4. It's time to rekindle our love for the Lord. I believe "delight" is a tremendous blessing. It helps us establish a firm identity in Christ that we are greatly loved by Him and it gives us a renewed mind so that we can love Him back!

Blessing prayer: For I am yours and you are mine. We know You are delighted with me and rejoice over me with shouts of joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
