The deep things of God
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10
The Greek word for deep is bathos, which means mystery and deep water. A deep thing of God cannot be seen, heard, or learned; it must be revealed by His Spirit. The Spirit searches - who digs deep, and brings out the deep things of God.
The deep things of God have to reach the 18 inches journey from our head to our heart, because intellectual knowledge cannot search for deep things, whereas the spirit can help us understand them experientially.
For example, we can instantly access images and videos about the northern lights online, but only at the knowledge level. To really experience and immerse ourselves in the awe of the northern lights, we need to travel there to catch the light. In a sense, our natural mind helps us understand God on a surface level, but the Holy Spirit helps us experience God on a deeper level. This requires us to have the extra senses to tap into the Spirit.
Like Ray Charles, a blind and celebrated musician, he lost his vision at a young age. One scene in the film “Ray” depicts his mom's efforts to help him adapt to the environment by sharpening and activating his hearing and sensory senses. God's heart toward us is similar to this. Our limitations are known to God, but He understands that we are blind to the spiritual world around us, and so He is teaching us to develop another sense - sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and cultivating the minds of Christ.
By immersing ourselves in the spirit, we gain access to the spiritual dimensions. Through the ministry of the Spirit, God's mysteries and deep things are now accessible to the children of God.
Blessing prayer: May we grow more sensitive to the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, and therefore be able to convey the deep things of God to know His good, pleasing, and perfect will, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
