The healing of wounded spirits

AI, Christian devotional

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? Proverbs 18:14

We always treat physical wounds right away because untreated wounds can cause infection and allow bacteria to enter. How about the emotional wounds that remain untreated? Obviously, we know it can cause mental issues, but spiritually, a wounded spirit prevents us from receiving God's fullness and freedom. The emotional wounds open the door to Satan's affliction. This is because Christians with wounded spirits are no real threat to Satan.

We live in an imperfect world that can lead to broken relationships and tragic events, so we've all been hurt and damaged at some point. Using a white tissue as an analogy, it is whole initially, but when we suffer from afflictions, such as childhood trauma, broken relationships, betrayal, death, disappointment, false accusations, and unforgiveness etc, the tissue itself tears into fragments, just as if our hearts were torn apart.

However, emotional wounds are not easily identified, since part of our body's self-preservation mechanism is to bury and ignore them. How will they be healed? It is God's desire for our souls to be whole, and He promises that "He can also heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3. Treating emotional wounds can be uncomfortable because it takes emotional fortitude to confront traumatic memories or hurtful moments, just as patients must endure some pain during treatments.

God can heal the wounded spirit, and Jesus, as the ultimate healer, transcends time and goes back to the very hurtful moment to restore the fragmented parts to our core.  Do not fight this battle alone, we can seek out spirit-filled Christians to pray or ministries such as inner healing and deliverance. In this ministry, I've seen numerous people be healed of their wounded spirits. If you reside in Hong Kong, I highly recommend Solomon's Porch's inner healing and deliverance ministry and they are open to other churches and Chinese speakers, more info here

Healing is a process, but let us take a powerful step in God's healing as Jesus is sent to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives.

Blessing prayer:By your stripes, we are healed. You can heal us holistically and especially treat our emotional wounds so that we can live the life that God intended for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen
