Work is holy Part 2

AI, Christian devotional

I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Ephesians 4:1

All work has a sacred purpose since God created mankind to sustain His creations and purposes through work. When we work, we exercise our dignity as creatures created in God's image, taking on God's task of continuing the creative process and caring for all that God has given us.

Vocation comes from the Latin word vocare, which means to call, in the key verse, the word callin gin Greek also translated as vocation. Hence, we are called to work, though our everyday work seems mundane, it is actually our high calling toward fulfilling God's purposes.

Regardless of what we do, whether you are a doctor, a businessman, or a full-time mom, our work always involves people around us, so God strategically places us in different places to be His light.  As I once ministered a church of Indonesian domestic helpers by saying God has placed them in a strategic position to influence various families here. As part of Paul's ministry he also engaged with the marketplace to win souls and make disciples, including meeting businesswomen Lydia who had a transformational impact on the region.

When we work with integrity and excellence, our work honors God, especially when the fruits of the spirit are evident to our co-workers, business partners, and clients.

Moreover, workplaces are our mission fields,  we tend to be extra loving and friendly in ministry, so why can't we be more intentional about befriending coworkers and sharing Christ's love at work?

I also find it powerful to simply share the Christian values through our work, even without directly preaching the gospel, as it is like a soft sale that attracts people to our faith.  Let's take a fresh look at our work. Rather than just paying our bills, our work is to fulfill God's purposes.

Blessing prayer: We thank God for blessing us with jobs and helping us partner with You so we can be a light in the workplace, sharing the fruits of the spirit with others, and exemplifying Christian values in our workplace, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
