A Sound Heart and Tongue

“A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones.” - Proverbs 14:30

Today’s key verse introduces the concept of “a sound heart,” referred to in Hebrew as "marpē," which means "healing" or "cure." This term beautifully encapsulates what a sound heart truly represents. It's not just about physical wellness but also includes emotional and spiritual health, leading to relational harmony and peace with God, ourselves, and others. When our hearts are filled with God’s peace and life, our tongues become instruments of healing. Just as the tongue has the power of life and death, a heart grounded in God’s truth enables us to speak with grace, promote peace, and strengthen one another. Attaining such a heart requires constant engagement with God’s Word and nurturing a deep, personal relationship with Him. For it is through Jesus that we receive life and peace, making a sound, healing heart and wholesome tongue possible.

Reflection Question:
How can you cultivate practices in your daily life that will help align your heart more closely with God’s Word, so that your words may bring healing?

Prayer:
Abba Father, we come before You, embracing the life and peace only You can provide. Teach us that You are the source of all healing. May Jesus rule over our hearts, filling us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Let this peace heal us from within so that our mouths may become gateways of Your healing grace to many. Empower us to speak words that uplift, heal, and restore, both others and ourselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
