Knowing Your Worth from Song of Songs Series Part 15

“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine; he grazes among the lilies.” Scripture: Song of Songs 6:3

Heart Matter: Two-Way Communication

In Song of Songs 6:3, we read: “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.” This verse highlights the intimacy that comes from mutual, healthy communication. The image of the beloved “grazing among the lilies” speaks of a peaceful and safe space where love can grow without fear or anxiety.

Just as Christ provides us with a safe place to be heard and understood, He listens and responds with love and care. In the same way, we are called to create environments where both we and others feel safe to communicate openly and honestly. Healthy relationships are characterized by mutual respect and the freedom to express ourselves without fear of judgment.

As we grow in our understanding of how Jesus communicates with the Father and others, we can begin to apply this to our own relationships. Being more assertive—expressing our feelings and needs with confidence—while also ensuring that others feel safe to do the same, builds trust and deepens connection. Assertiveness in communication is about being truthful while maintaining a spirit of grace and gentleness, as Jesus often models for us.

We don’t need to remain silent or fear speaking up. In healthy relationships, communication flows freely, just as Christ demonstrates through His relationship with us. He creates a peaceful and safe place for two-way communication, and we are invited to extend the same in our relationships.

Heart Application

Spend time in prayer, sitting quietly in the presence of Jesus. Imagine His love surrounding you like a garden of lilies— peaceful, and safe. Share with Him whatever is on your heart, trusting that He is listening and He cares about you.

Prayer:

Abba Father, , thank You for being a safe place for me to rest and speak freely. Help me to trust in Your love and listen to Your voice with an open heart. Teach me to communicate with others in the same way You communicate with me—filled with love, patience, and grace. Amen
