Money is Spiritual, Part 13: Preserving Treasure

"Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish man devours it." Proverbs 21:20 (ESV)

A wise person understands the value of saving and preserving resources, not out of fear or scarcity but with foresight and faith. Saving is an act of stewardship, recognizing that what God provides is meant to be managed carefully. The "precious treasure and oil" in a wise person’s home symbolize abundance, provision, and stability. The wise person knows how to identify what is valuable and ensures these treasures are preserved for the future. Their home is like a storehouse, reflecting prudent management and a readiness for preparation.

On the other hand, the fool "devours" everything, consuming recklessly and thoughtlessly. This total consumption shows irresponsibility and often leads to instability and lack. Mismanagement of resources doesn’t just harm the fool but can also impact those who depend on them. The fool not only fails to recognize value but also squanders and destroys what could have been a source of provision and stability.

We are called to live with wisdom, managing our resources intentionally and saving not in fear but in faith. When we save wisely, we honor God as hisstewards while also creating a foundation of stability for ourselves and others.

Golden Nugget

  1. Save First, Spend Later: Make saving a priority before spending.

  2. Avoid Impulsive Spending: Use a 48-hour cooling period to determine if it’s truly necessary.

  3. Build an Emergency Fund: Save for unexpected expenses to ensure financial stability.

Prayer

Abba father, Teach me to be wise and prudent in managing what You’ve given, saving with faith and not fear. Help me to recognize what is truly valuable and perserve it to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
