Money Is Spiritual, Part 14: Lending to God
"Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done." – Proverbs 19:17
When we give to the poor or bless someone who cannot repay us, it is not just a physical act—it is deeply spiritual. Proverbs 19:17 reminds us that such generosity is like lending to God Himself, and He promises to repay us. This principle aligns with Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25:40: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me.” When we show kindness to others, especially those in need, it is as though we are showing kindness directly to Jesus.
God sees every act of generosity, no matter how small, and He values it. Not only does He promise to reward us in this life, but He also assures us of eternal rewards. In Luke 14:12-14, Jesus teaches that when we give to those who cannot repay us, we will be repaid at “the resurrection of the righteous.”
Giving is an act of faith. When we give cheerfully, we cultivate a heart of generosity that reflects God’s love. The reward is greater than what we give.
Golden Nugget:
Giving to the poor is like lending to God, and He promises to reward you.
Acts of kindness to those in need are considered acts done for Jesus.
God’s rewards for generosity are eternal and far greater than the gift itself.
Prayer
Abba Father, Help me to see generosity as an act of faith and love for You. Teach me to give cheerfully and to trust Your promise, knowing that you are a faithful rewarder. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
