Seasons of Life (Introduction)
Over the past month, I’ve taken a break from writing. During this time, I’ve been reflecting on how to discern the season of life I’m in. Through my studies, I had the opportunity to learn from Pastor Les Bowling, a wise man who shared profound insights about the rhythm of life and how to navigate it with wisdom. His words resonated with me deeply.
As I step into my 40th year, this reflection feels like halftime in a sports game—a time to pause, assess, and reflect on what has worked, what hasn’t, and how to move forward into the second half of life.
Life is full of seasons and cycles—it’s part of God’s divine design. The Bible makes it clear that God promotes and exalts in due time (1 Peter 5:6). When life's responsibilities pile up and distractions consume us, we often fail to slow down, pause, and hear God's heart for our current season.
Instead, we may find ourselves:
Simply "getting by" or shift into survival mode.
Feeling stuck in a season that seems never-ending.
Becoming frustrated and tempted to quit, stop dreaming.
Letting years—or even a decade to slip by, settling for less than God’s best.
But deep down, we know there’s more.
I was particularly touched by a quote from Pastor Edmund Teo in his book This Side of Heaven:
"Our season cannot be the reason, because if our season becomes our reason, then our season becomes our prison."
Too often, we attach our entire sense of purpose to our current season. When things aren’t moving forward, we assume nothing is happening—that we’ve missed our calling, or that God has forgotten us. But what if this season isn’t about fulfillment yet, but about growth?
This devotional series will explore the major seasons we go through and how to navigate them with God’s word. Change is never easy. Change often brings loss, and loss brings pain. But change also brings growth—it deepens our faith, refines our character, and strength that brings us moving forward to the next season. That’s also part of God’s design for life.
Wherever you are right now—whether you feel stuck, in transition, or stepping into something new—my prayer is that this series will see the season clearly, embrace it with faith, and walk through it with joy.
