Seasons of Life Part 10
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
When we hear God calling us into a season of rest, we might picture stepping away from work, escaping responsibilities, and retreating somewhere quiet like Bali. But true rest in God doesn’t always mean stepping away from work; it means stepping into His peace, even in the midst of our life responsibilities.
I remember when God led me to Australia during the hectic years of running a startup. For two years, I had been working tirelessly, constantly striving. Even though my trip to Australia was for a business opportunity, God graciously allowed me to rest. It was there that I discovered my love for writing.
During that season of rest, I started my first blog, Roll Your Works. I was trying to encourage myself while my business was on the verge of collapse. Yet, in that time of uncertainty, God gave me the space to reflect, and write. That was when I realized: rest is not about stopping everything—it’s about letting go of striving and learning to live from a place of peace, not exhaustion.
There are many modern-day Marthas, constantly striving and feeling anxious about everything. But we need to learn from Mary—to sit at Jesus’ feet and be refreshed in His presence at all times. We may not always be called to a physical place of rest, but God is always speaking, always leading us back to Him.
You don’t have to quit your job—just quit striving and worrying. His rest is available right where you are, in every season. Just surrender, and let go of striving.
Reflection:
In what areas of your life are you striving instead of resting in God’s grace?
Prayer: I surrender my striving and my burdens to You. Teach me to work with Your strength, not my own. Let me find rest in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
