The promise of power

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." - Acts 1:8

When Jesus prepared to ascend to His Father, He left His disciples with a promise—a promise of power. This power, known in Greek as "dynamis," represents divine enablement, not only to proclaim the gospel but also to affirm it through signs and wonders. This same resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead was to be with every believer, fulfilling the Great Commission.

Today, this promise extends to us. The Holy Spirit empowers us to mirror Jesus’ ministry, demonstrating God’s kingdom through healing, prophecy, and other spiritual gifts. God’s power hasn't stopped; it's as active and effective as ever, designed to advance the Kingdom, build the Church, and encourage our walk with Christ.

However, with great power comes great responsibility. We are called to steward this divine gift with humility and the fruits of the Spirit; it is for God’s glory, not for personal gain or selfish ambition.

Reflection Question:

How can you cultivate the power of the Holy Spirit and develop spiritual fruit in your life?

Prayer:

Abba Father, we thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, the 'dynamis' that empowers us to be Your witnesses. Lord, as we step out in this divine empowerment, help us to always reflect and model Jesus. May we use Your power to serve faithfully, love sacrificially, and speak boldly about Your Kingdom. Equip us with humility and the fruits of the Spirit, so that in all we do, Your name is glorified. Strengthen us to advance Your Gospel, build Your Church, and walk steadfastly in our Christian journey. We commit to stewarding this power responsibly, as agents of Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen
