Father’s guidance

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Psalm 32:8

The movie “Scent of a woman” is the story of Charlie, a preparatory school student who “babysits” Frank, a blind veteran over a Thanksgiving weekend. As Charlie was distressed by an ordeal and a moral dilemma at school, Frank asked him, “Oh, Charlie, why are you all alone in this thing ? Where's your father ?”  Charlie replied, “He left.”

The question reveals the profound importance of fatherhood. The role of fathers is vital in establishing a child's identity and providing guidance, especially during critical moments. The absence of fathers will cause the father wound, and people beset with this wound often feel alone and try to "figure things out" on their own.  During times of distress, a good father provides support, affirmation, and guidance to his children.

Though our earthly fathers can be flawed, our heavenly father promises in today's verse that “I will guide you with My eye”. God guides us and directs us in the right way, since He knows what lies ahead and wants the best for us.

Aside from His great counsel, He also watches over us with His loving eyes, and rest assured that He never leaves us or forsakes us. Jesus says “I will not leave you as orphans” John 14:18,  Jesus is our eternal father and wonderful counselor who will not leave us alone and He will run toward us like the father of the prodigal son.

Blessing prayer: Thank you Abba Father, for filling us with your perfect love. We are no longer orphans but children of God. Your loving eye will always guide us, and we can always turn to you for advice and counsel. In Jesus’ name Amen.
