Glorify His Name

I am the Lord. Exodus 6:2

“I am the Lord” appears in the Bible more than 150 times, indicating the importance of this statement.  I am comes from the root verb hayah, which means “to exist”, “to come”, and “the Lord” is His name, “Jehovah”, meaning the existing One. Thus, it could be translated as “I am the existing one.”

Throughout His promises and commandments, we find this I am the Lord declaration.  "I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians" (Exodus 6:6), and when He commands, "Keep My commandments, and do them; I am the Lord." (Lev 22:31).

The power of this declaration allows us to know who He is, what He has done, and what He will do for us, leading us to have the fear of the Lord so that we may follow His commandments. God’s name carries power and authority and He wants us to know His name and make it known to others.

Jesus gave us a perfect example of living an obedient life even to the point of death in order to glorify His name.  Before Jesus’s gruesome death on the cross,  He prayed “Father, glorify Your name.”  Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.” John 12:28

Our Father is the existing one with power and authority, so let us follow Jesus and live an obedient life in order to glorify our Father’s name.

Blessing Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, Hallow by Your name. Your name is to be feared as there is no other God. We will always remember your name because your mercy endures forever. Thank you Jesus for giving us the perfect example of how to glorify His name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
