Our hearts are everything

AI, Christian devotional

I will give you a new heart. Ezekiel 36:26

As important as our physical hearts are, so are our inner hearts, which are the wellsprings of life. (Proverbs 4:23) “Heart” is a difficult word to summarize as it is a complex interplay of our mental process, emotions and will. Biblically,  the heart in Hebrew is לבב (lebab) which refers to a totality of our inner man nature. Putting it simply, our hearts act like a control panel governing our lives. Everything we do, think, desire comes from our hearts.

The Bible describes our hearts in many ways, including clean hearts, strong hearts, but also broken hearts, deceitful hearts, wicked hearts, etc.  While a human's heart can be the root of problems, our hearts can also be an instrument of God's love, because our hearts can be fertile fields where God continually plants and cultivates us to bear fruit.

Jesus’s redemption begins in the heart, and the heart is where renewal happens. God promised us that we will receive a new heart, a heart of flesh instead of a stony heart.  Also, our hearts can be radically changed because "Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love," Ephesians 3:17.

Let us invite God to dwell in our hearts today, and we ask that the Holy Spirit constantly sanctify and consecrate our hearts so that we can manifest God's love.

Blessing prayer: God, cleanse me and create a new clean heart. Please help us remove any evil and wicked thoughts from our hearts. I pray that you will heal our broken hearts and bind up our wounds and teach us to love the Lord with all our heart! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
