The dangers of unbelief
“Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief.” Mark 6:5-6
Is there anything Jesus cannot do for us? In the case of unbelief, the answer is unfortunately yes.
It is in the key verse that Jesus chose not to do mighty works in his hometown of Nazareth.
It was because of their unbelief that he did not receive any honor in his hometown. There were people who questioned Jesus' wisdom and power and His divine nature by using human reasoning to explain where He came from.
“Is this not the carpenter’s son? In their earthly minds, Jesus was just a carpenter's son, and they were "offended" by him. In the original Greek, the word “offend” meant “to put a stumbling block in the path of others” and “entice them to sin”.
Human unbelief can have serious consequences. First, we may not receive God's mighty work in our life , second, we may feel offended by God's work, and worse still, we may cause God's people to fall by putting a stumbling block over God's work.
Our unbelief, human reasoning, or tradition prevent us from living a victorious life, and our unbelief mind can even "cancel" God's word. “And so you cancel the word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. Mark 7:13”
As we know, God created the whole world through His word, and Jesus is the word of God. As a result, we can easily "cancel" God by relying on human reasoning and tradition due to our unbelief.
Our faith in Christ does not condemn us, and the Holy Spirit always convicts us. Even if you have unbelief in any area, the good news is that we can ask God to help us overcome it and He can help our unbelief. “As Jesus said “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” May your faith be as the Centurion's that Jesus is marvel at your believing faith!
Blessing prayer: May God help us overcome our unbelief by removing our human reasoning and tradition. The Holy Spirit helps us not conform to the world, but be transformed through the renewing of our minds. As written in the Bible, all things are possible for those who believe in God . You are delivered from the spirit of unbelief, your mind is renewed, you are filled with God's truth, and God’s wonder in your life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
