Part 6: The crowned heart

"Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate."Song of Songs 4:3

Pomegranates are one of the Seven Species of the Promised Land, known for their symbolism and health benefits. They are frequently mentioned in the Song of Songs, where their beauty and richness are mentioned. In addition to their spiritual significance, pomegranates are a superfood, especially beneficial for heart health.

Physical Aspect: Nourishment for the Heart

Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants, especially punicalagins and polyphenols, which help protect the heart and blood vessels. These compounds reduce inflammation, improve cholesterol levels, and help lower blood pressure. Pomegranate juice has also been shown to prevent the buildup of plaque in arteries, promoting overall cardiovascular health.

Emotional Aspect: The Abundant Heart

The pomegranate is often associated with abundance, reflected in its 613 seeds—symbolic of the 613 commandments in Jewish tradition. Just as a healthy heart pumps life into the body, a well-nourished heart overflows with love, joy, and peace. Pomegranates can serve as a symbolic reminder to care for your emotional well-being, cultivating an “abundant heart”.

Spiritual Aspect: The Crown of Wisdom

The crown on top of the pomegranate carries deep spiritual significance. In the Bible, crowns represent royalty and divine authority. The pomegranate’s crown reminds us of God’s wisdom and sovereignty. Spiritually, it symbolizes the crowned heart—a heart that is not only physically healthy but also aligned with God’s will, living under the crown of His wisdom and guidance.

Tips: Add it to your grocery list: Look for Bless Fresh Squeezed Pomegranate Or try Marks and Spencer’s pomegranate Rubies (ready-to-eat), which are great for adding to salads and yogurt.

Prayer

Abba Father,  may our hearts be as full as a pomegranate, overflowing with love, health, and wisdom. Help us to care for our bodies, minds, and spirits with the nourishment You provide. Amen.
