Forward Focus

"But Jesus said to him, 'No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.'" - Luke 9:62 (NKJV)

In the original Greek of our key verse, the word "fit" is translated from "εὔθετος" (euthetos), signifying something well-placed, suitable, or ready for use. Jesus uses this term to describe the”fit” condition of a disciple: one who is properly aligned for Kingdom service. Just as a well-placed plow is essential for a straight furrow, so too is our undivided commitment essential for our walk with Christ. When we look back, we risk creating a crooked path, indicative of a divided heart and a lack of focus. To be fit for God's Kingdom requires a forward focus—a steadfast gaze upon Jesus that signifies clarity and commitment.

Reflection Question:

What are the distractions that cause you to look back, preventing you from being fully committed and focused on the heart of God?

Prayer:

Abba father, we come before You with hearts longing to be fit for Your Kingdom. We confess the times we've looked back, allowing past distractions to dictate our direction.

"Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name." (Psalm 86:11). We seek Your strength to lay aside the entanglements of yesterday and to embrace the high calling of Your Kingdom with singular focus.

As we put our hands to the plow in Your fields, let us not be distracted by the fleeting shadows behind us. Like Paul, forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead (Philippians 3:13). In Jesus' Name, we commit to this journey of discipleship, determined not to look back, to livea life of forward focus. In Jesus’ name, Amen
