Love is… (Part 11)
In Greek, the word for "believes" is pisteuō, which encompasses relational trust and faith in someone or something. To "believe in all things" does not suggest a blind trust lacking discernment; rather, it indicates that love provides an orientation of hope and trust, particularly in interpersonal relationships. Simply put, we trust in the potential and inherent goodness of others. We are able to see the good in others and ourselves despite failures and weaknesses.
Love itself has transformative power, revealing the potential for growth and change in people. This love does not ignore reality but chooses to view it through the lens of grace and possibility. Essentially, because God is love and His love always has a redemptive purpose, the mindset that "love believes all things" reflects a trust that God's control is sufficient for people and situations to work out on their own.
By believing the best in others, we mirror the heart of God, who trusts in His love and the efficacy of His plans. Such love encourages us to support one another, fostering resilience in relationships. We do not give up on people easily, but rather, we drive their growth and journeys. It is a love that endures through life's trials and tribulations, always ready to restore and heal rather than condemn.
Reflection:
How can you cultivate a more trusting and hopeful attitude in your relationships, reflecting on God’s belief in the transformative power of love?
Prayer:
Abba Father, give me the grace to love as You love—believing, hoping, and enduring all things. Help me to see others through Your eyes, recognizing the potential You have in each person. May Your love guide my actions and my attitudes, making me an instrument of Your hope and healing in a world that needs restoration and transformation. Teach me to trust in the power of Your love, which always seeks to redeem and never to condemn. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
