Love is…(Part 13)

Love endures all things. (1 Cor 13:7)

The Greek word behind "endures" is ὑπομένω (hypomenēi), meaning to remain steadfast under pressure, to not give up easily. Like a marathon runner who, despite exhaustion, keeps pushing toward the finish line.
True love, then, is not merely an emotion but a determined act of will. It requires the resilience to withstand all kinds of challenges—personal, relational, or external—without yielding to adversity. This endurance gives us strength and stamina, keeps us loving even when it's hard.

Endurance in love means choosing to stay committed through misunderstandings and hardships. Like the endurance of a seasoned athlete, it doesn’t grow overnight but is built through consistent practice and the grace of God. It is about maintaining commitment and affection, not only during joyous times but also in the face of trials.

Do we give up easily on others, especially those who are unlovable or when things become difficult?

Reflection:
"Knowing that 'God never gives up on you,' how does this truth help us to cultivate enduring love in other relationships?"

Prayer:
Abba Father, I confess there are times when the easier path tempts me to give up rather than endure in love. Help me to embrace the hard work that real love requires. Thank you for Your perfect example of enduring love—never giving up on us, always extending mercy. May Your enduring love strengthen me to show the same steadfast love to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
