Love Is...Part 2

"Love is kind..." - 1 Corinthians 13:4

In 1 Corinthians 13:4, we discover a profound truth: "Love is kind." The Greek word used here, χρηστεύομαι (chrēsteuomai), comes from chrēstos, which means "useful" or "beneficial." This term is unique to this passage in the New Testament, setting it apart from other words translated as "kindness."

It represents the idea of "love in action." This kindness extends beyond simply having an inner quality; it is an outward expression. Love, as described here, is not merely an action driven by emotion; it consistently seeks to do good to others. True biblical love involves practical actions—whether through words of encouragement, acts of service, giving, or even forgiving and being patient with others' shortcomings. When we embody "love is kind," we prioritize the welfare of others and take practical steps in our daily life. Love is not a temporary affection but a consistent commitment to the well-being of others, reflecting God’s kindness in tangible ways.

Reflection:

What practical actions can you take to display love? How do you perceive the reception of love from others in your daily interactions?

Prayer:

Abba Father, thank You for Your unending kindness towards us. Each day You shower us with words of encouragement, provide for our needs, and extend Your kindness in countless ways. Lord, bless us with Your heart of kindness so that we may extend this love through our actions. Help us to embody the true spirit of kindness, actively seeking to do good and uplift those around us. May our lives reflect Your love and kindness through our daily deeds and words. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
