Mercy triumphs over judgment (Introduction)

We need mercy as much as we need air, water, and every other necessity of life. Our lives are built upon the need for God’s mercy. Yet, we live in a world that often feels cold and harsh—a world where criticism, judgment, and even cancel culture dominate. Sadly, judgment comes naturally to us because of our sinful nature. We criticize others, we harbor unforgiveness and offense, and we look down on people. Worse still, we often become our own worst enemy—beating ourselves up with guilt and shame.

In the midst of this, we desperately need mercy. Mercy is at the very heart of God’s nature. It has the power to heal and restore what judgment and self-righteousness have broken. Mercy softens hardened hearts, brings healing where there was once pain, and restores relationships that seemed beyond repair. It sets us free from judgment and brings freedom and peace.

As we journey through this devotional series, we will explore the essence of mercy, the destructive nature of judgment, and how to receive mercy for ourselves while extending it to others. My own name, chosen by my mother, reflects mercy and joy, and this inspires me to dive deeper into understanding mercy and learning how to live it out in a world that so desperately needs it. When we show mercy, we reflect God’s heart and His unconditional love to those around us.

Let us journey together to discover what it means to love mercy, walk humbly before God, and share His tender compassion with others.
