Nothing but a jar of oil

And she said, 'Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.'" - 2 Kings 4:2

The widow in 2 Kings 4 approached Elisha with only a jar of oil, as creditors were coming to take her sons as slaves. Elisha asked, 'What do you have in your house?' She replied, 'I have nothing but a jar of oil.' In the worldly view, this seemed too small to matter, but in the hands of God, it became the source of her miraculous provision. This story demonstrates God’s ability to transform what appears insignificant into abundant blessings. The widow’s act of faith in gathering vessels and pouring out her oil as instructed by Elisha highlights the importance of obedience and reliance on the Holy Spirit. In God’s economy, nothing is too small or humble. Whether it's a jar of oil or a small talent you possess, when offered to God, it can be multiplied and yield miraculous outcomes.

Reflection Question:
What are the "small jars of oil" in your life that you might be overlooking? How can you offer them to God in faith, expecting His miraculous touch?

Prayer:
Abba Father, we thank You for Your constant provision and the reminder that You work wonders even with our smallest offerings. We acknowledge that in Your hands, nothing is too insignificant to be used for Your glory. Help us to trust in Your abundant provision and to act in obedience, just like the widow with her jar of oil. We give You our humble beginnings, trusting that You can multiply them beyond our imaginations. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
