Perhaps Today... I'll Get Over Myself
“For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other...” Galatians 5:17
“Self” is one of the greatest obstacles to a deep relationship with God. Our selfish nature resists God’s authority, seeks glory, clings to comfort, and thrives on worry and control. It wants independence, follows emotions, and relies on human reasoning. This creates an inner battle—a constant struggle between living for God and living for ourselves.
But perhaps today, we can choose to surrender. “Self” roduces pride, so the remedy is humility. It takes repentance, awareness, and a constant choice to walk in the Spirit moment by moment. When we humble ourselves, serve others, and intentionally put God first, we begin to kill self-centeredness.
Reflection
Look for ways to serve someone today. Even small acts of kindness can overcome selfishness and reflect God’s love.
Prayer:
Abba father, help me get over myself today. Teach me to surrender control, walk in Your Spirit, and serve others with humility. May You increase as I decrease. Amen.
