Seasons of Life – Part 5

"Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness." Proverbs 16:3

Many assume that the 60s are the years of retirement, but in reality, they can be some of the most strategic and productive years. Some ministers say they don’t "retire"—they simply "change their tires" from career-driven work to a life of ministry and purpose.

The 60s: Strategic

-This is a season of finishing well—stewarding wisdom, time, and resources.
-However, there is a warning: Don’t let experience become a liability. Some people become unteachable in their later years, but true wisdom remains humble and open to learning.

- Isaiah 43:18-19 reminds us that God is always doing a new thing, even in our later years.

The 70s: Succession

The 70s bring a shift in focus—who will carry on what you have built?

- Inheritance is what you leave behind; legacy is who you leave behind.
-This is a time to invest in relationships, pass down wisdom, and prepare the next generation.

The 80s and 90s: Finishing the Race

- In the 80s, health becomes a greater challenge—Pastor Les humorously calls this the "slippery" decade because avoiding falls is a priority!
-The 90s are a time of 'Sleepy,' a season of preparation for transitioning to eternity. For those in Christ, closing one’s eyes here means opening them in heaven.

Through every stage, we serve God from the beginning to the end. No matter our age, His purpose always remains. Our time is in His hands.

Reflection Questions:

  • How can I embrace every season with purpose and gratitude?

Prayer:

Abba Father, thank You for the gift of life and the wisdom that comes with each season. Help me to remain teachable, purposeful, and focused on what truly matters. And live a life that pleases you, In Jesus’ name, Amen.
